After a career spanning more than 20 years as a gifted cellist and orchestral musician, Italian-born Umberto Clerici was appointed Chief Conductor of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 2022, just four years after making his conducting debut. As a cellist, Clerici remains in high demand worldwide, having performed on the stages of the world’s most prestigious concert halls and as Principal Cello for the Teatro Regio di Torino and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. In 2025 Clerici joined IMG Artists’s high-calibre roster for general management, and will continue to develop his career in opera, returning to Opera Queensland to lead a production of Puccini’s La bohème.
